This is one of those times where the ugly vegetable experiences of childhood are reborn in new, blissful awareness. Viz: chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, ceci beans, etc.
How would a childhood Roberto predict that those little, chalky orbs would someday be reincarnated in such wonders as hummus? Or, more immediately, this dish from 101 Cookbooks: “Ultimate Chickpea Noodle Soup Recipe”. While I don’t know if it is the ultimate or not, it tastes it.
I made it tonight with chicken broth and a can of beans — both organic, from Trader Joe’s — actually, now that I think of it, the oil and pasta were from there as well :). Oh my: so very, very tasty. And only five ingredients, counting the salt. Definitely recommended.
